The Best Beard Trimmer Or How to Make Sure Your Beard Grows Up Big and Strong

best-beard-trimmerLike riding off into the sunset on a motorcycle or the back of a horse, joining the French Foreign Legion for the sake of adventure, or starting a fire without matches, growing a beard seems to be one of those things that calls out to men the world over. Some cultures regard it as a right of passage while others might simply look at it as a fashion statement, but no matter where the would-be beard grower might come from, one thing unites us all: Beards scream “cool”. They shout “manly”. It might sound a little corny to some, but the fact is that the ability to grow a truly great beard quite literally separates the men from the boys. Keep reading if you want to learn how to bridge the gap. Before we jump into finding the best beard trimmer for your needs, let’s look at some basics first.

Whether you just hit puberty and are clueless about how growing a beard works or you’ve been trying to grow a great beard for the last 30 years without success, this section of our guide is for you. Before we talk about the hows, let’s talk about why you should even grow a beard at all. While the science is somewhat disputed, there is evidence that beards serve several male-specific purposes.

First, beards act like evolutionary sunscreen by protecting your face from the sometimes harsh touch of Mother Nature – why do you think so many lumberjacks, cowboys, and other outdoorsy types grow them? Second, they are, as previously mentioned, a natural signifier that one has passed from boyhood to manhood, at least genetically speaking. In many cultures, once a boy can grow some whiskers, he is no longer regarded as a child, which is obviously an important milestone in any life. Finally, according to some scientists (and anyone who bothers to think about it for a minute), women are naturally predisposed to find full, luxurious beards – and those who sport them – more attractive. The reasoning, according to sites like Natural News, is that the ability to grow a great beard is directly proportional to one’s virility, genetic quality, ability to provide for and protect a family (in the evolutionary sense), and so on.

Can you live a full, great, and clean-shaven life? Of course! But science backs up sporting a beard, and let’s face it – if you can pull one off, beards make guys look great!

So now that you know why to grow one, let’s talk about the best beard trimmer (all of which are under fifty bucks) for the newcomer to the divine art of beard growth in our beard trimmer reviews.

Oster Professional 76023-510 Fast Feed Clipper with Adjustable BladeOur first entry on the list of best trimmers for mature beards and mature beard growers has a real mouthful of a name. In full, this bad boy is called the Oster 76023-510 Fast Feed Clipper with Adjustable Blade. Whew! Just saying that is almost enough to wear a person out! Luckily for its users, though, using this trimmer is a breeze. That’s no surprise, though, since it’s actually a professional level model, and not unlike something you might find in a barber shop or salon. With that in mind, its $70 USD price tag is a steal.

The first thing a prospective buyer should know about this Oster trimmer in terms of the actual user experience involved is that it is made in the United States, which, in addition to being an indication of great quality, should hold a lot appeal for the “Buy American” crowd. Beyond that, this trimmer is loaded with options. A wide variety of fully adjustable lengths (provided by the unit’s Fast Feed technology and the Oster’s unique pivot motor) make it a snap to trim even wet, heavy beards to anything from a 0 (in barbershop lingo, this means there’s basically no beard left) to a 1 (a medium-length growth). Blade oil, a cleaning kit, a blade guard with a variety of guide combs are are included right out of the box. All in all, this is maybe the best trimmer for men who are experienced beard growers looking to do fast, accurate work on a mature beard.

  1. Hi Logan
I have a Gillette Fusion ProGlide beard trimmer and styler which is pretty good. It comes with a few different attachments and also doubles up as a wet-shave razor. It’s completely waterproof and is pretty compact so it’s perfect for the beard on the move! Probably not as robust as the clipper style trimmers, but it’d be perfect for an interim trim or touch-up cut.
